The Legend of Buratai now to be released on May 17
Because of the number of schools who showed interest in attending the public presentation of The Legend of Buratai, a new date has been fixed for the book release.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr Lazarus Balami said that the original date fixed for the book release which is May 4th has to be postponed because most schools raised concern with the date. “Principals and Headteachers of schools complained that most schools will be resuming end of the month and usually it takes a week or so before an impressive turn out can be obtained. They want to send their students to participate in the book release and also interact at with the author. Some of them want to dramatize the book. For that reason we have to postpone it to May 17,” said Balami.
Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Sani, the author of the book said that the book was written in the style of a folklore for children and teenagers. The whole exercise is attempt to transform the life of General Buratai into a legend. “Legend is a genre of folklore that consists of a narrative featuring human actions perceived or believed both by teller and listeners to have taken place within human history. Narratives in this genre may demonstrate human values, and possess certain qualities that give the tale verisimilitude. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word Legend as a story coming down from the past especially one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable, a popular myth of recent origin, or a person or thing that inspires legends. It is generally accepted that the life of Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai especially his gallantry and bravado in leading the Army to defeat Boko Haram insurgents is somewhat legendary and for this alone, Buratai inspires legends. The Legend of Buratai is an attempt to turn the life of this illustrious Infantry General in to a legend for posterity and to encourage our young ones especially those who want to join the Army to have a simple glimpse of the life of Buratai,” said Dr. Sani.
The book will be released in Abuja at the FCT City Library,Wuse Abuja.
Mr. Collins Mbakwe of the English Department of University of Maiduguri who reviewed the book wrote that, “The narrative in this book is with unprecedented details and forthrightness. Buratai’s ability to remember events with precision is not only matchless but a proof of his startling intellect.”
