Professor Babagaba Umara Zulum of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the 2019 gubernatorial elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Professor Alhassan Muhammad Gani,the Returning Officer of the governorship election,Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, gave the total number of registered voters in the state as 2,316,218; and the total number of accredited voters for the election as 1,292,138.
Out of the 32 contestants, Zulum polled 1,175, 440 votes against his major contender in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mohammed Imam who polled 66,115.
The governor-elect won in all the 27 local governments in Borno State, making him the first professor in northern Nigeria to have won governorship election.
Professor Zulum was previously a commissioner in the Ministry of Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, he is a professor of soil and water engineering.He was also a rector in a state owned polytechnic, Ramat Polytechnic.
