Yarima Saleh is likely going to be the next Deputy Governor of Borno State

It is now generally accepted that Professor Babagana Umara Zullum of the ruling APC may end up as the next Governor of Borno state. This is because Borno just like Yobe state is synonymous with a one party state that has always favored the ANPP which metamorphosed into the APC. The question in the minds of political analyst and the general public is who is going to serve as Deputy Governor for Prof Zullum?

Another source who spoke to this medium in confidence said that if the opinion of Prof. Zullum matters in this equation, then Mr. Saleh will be his deputy because Prof. Zullum has confidence in him and he has made that known.

The names of three persons from the Biu-Hawul axis of Borno South have stood out in this matter: The incumbent Deputy Governor, Usman Mamman Ndurkwa, the Caretaker Chairman of Biu LGA, Umar Kadafur and the last but not the least is the retired Head of Service, Yarima Saleh. We reliably gathered that Mr. Saleh who may likely be the next Deputy Governor of Borno state. This is because APC stakeholders and Governor Kashim Shettima are no longer comfortable with the idea of retaining Mr. Ndurkwa to continue as Deputy Governor under the administration of Prof. Zullum because of the way and manner Idriss Mamman Ndurkwa, the elder brother to the incumbent Governor confronted and challenged the state APC machinery when he lost the APC gubernatorial ticket. In fact observers said that Mr. Idriss Ndurkwa was sent to contest for governorship in Borno by Senator Ali Sheriff, a man who the present crop of APC stakeholders controlling affairs in Borno reckoned a personan non grata. Furthermore the Biu Emirate establishment will not agree to work with a Hawul indigene as Deputy Governor after waiting for so long. Traditionally, the number two slot has always been occupied by someone from Biu LGA.
This is why many political analysts are saying Mr. Yarima Saleh will be the next Deputy Governor. A veteran architect, Mr. Saleh is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and he currently holds Bsc and Msc in Architecture. He started his career as an Engineer in the defunct Native Authority and later on became Director, Public Building in the Borno State Ministry of Works and Housing. He later on became Ministerial Secretary, Ministry of Health before he was appointed as the pioneer Permanent Secretary of the RRR (Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation) ministry where he served together with Prof. Zullum who was then the Commissioner. Mr. Saleh Eventually became the Head of Service of the Borno state before he retired not long ago. “His track record, incorruptibility, calmness, deeper understanding of the post insurgency matters, ability to carry everybody along, fairness and easy going disposition makes him most suitable for the job said,” Tijjani Ahmed. There are those who said Mr. Umar Kadafur, the Caretaker Chairman of Biu LGA is the next Deputy Governor and this news even went on viral in the social media. Investigations carried out by these medium revealed that both Prof. Zullum and the Borno South elders do not want Mr. Kadafur as Deputy Governor because of his age and poor academic credentials. “The Biu Emirate establishment cannot afford to field an undergraduate as Deputy Governor when the Kanuris have a Professor as a Governor. This is even more worrisome when you factor in the theory that Borno South especially Biu and Hawul have always considered themselves to be the most educated people in the state. Kadafur is not a good product to sell and Borno South will not like to have him as a Deputy Governor now, said Mr. Ndahi Peter.
